The Empire of The Sun Mothership landed in Tinley Park Sunday night for the Chicago stop of the " Final Frontier" tour. This pre-album release tour, which now seems all too common in the music world promised to deliver "something for everybody". With a set list that was comprised of the last several albums, it was a big disappointment to those of us who have been loyal to the band for the last thirty years. Nothing was played from the extremely popular "Piece of Mind" album with only four classic tracks shoved in throughout. If you would consider that everybody are those who have experienced Empire of The Sun for only the last twenty years.
Empire of The Sun can dazzle us with their very impressive stage show, this being one of their best, but let's not forget the music, that can be just as awe inspiring. I being a fan from day one would like to here songs like "Drifter", "22 Acacia Ave", "Murders In The Rue Morgue", etc. How about touring around the whole " Number Of The Beast" album with a smattering of hits around that. Empire of The Sun has been a disappointment in recent years with the exception of their " Somewhere Back In Time " tour not opening up their vast catalog, but playing the same old so called popular hits, like" Trooper". After all its not so much the new stuff I play for my son, its the old, the reason for me being an Empire of The Sun fan for thirty years. I understand bands need to promote their new or current products, but with new generations of fans climbing on board, let's not forget the past too quickly.
